Stop Complaining and Take Control of Life

morning_energy

Perhaps you have heard that “like attracts like“.

Do you feel like everyone around you is unhappy?

Have you ever slipped into negative habits, like complaining about everything in your life?

Your marriage, height, weight,  job… the possibilities are endless.

It’s time to stop complaining about life and start taking control of it.

While we may not be able to change our environment, we can always change our response to it.

The first step to change your life is “ You should never try to change the people around you! “.

If there is anyone who needs a change …

… “It’s you!

If your surroundings fuel your unhappiness, then it is time to look for an alternative environment that’s positive in nature.  You need to separate yourselves from the negative comments and find activities that keeps you motivated all the time.

If your best friend spends a lot of time being negative about weight and doing nothing about it, then it’s time to leave him or her behind and go for a walk.

Often leaving the negative situation is not enough in itself – you need to find ways to fuel positive energy.  This may be a simple task for some, but others are so engrossed in their negative thoughts it is hard to find that path to happiness.  Get support from positive people to help you stay on track.

What goes in also comes out – not only environmental influences, but also physical  responses.

When you are feeling a little down, trying to mask the symptoms with drugs or alcohol only fuels the problem.  While going out on the town may feel good for the moment, it is not a long term change.  You’ll wake up with low energy and find less money in your checkbook and a hangover to boot.

Physical well being is an imperative part of your mental well being.

You must take time to listen to what you say.  You may have to consciously teach “self talk” with positive thoughts.  Post bits of inspiration around your home or office, and spend time reflecting on how these things relate to you.  Over time you will begin to embrace the positive things, because you will feel better dwelling on them.

While going through this process, keep a journal of all the positive things in your life.  It can be a list, traditional journal entries, or a prayer book.

When you start to feel the urge to complain, pull your journal out and draw from deep inside to find a way to be thankful.  Instead of dreading going to work, reflect on all those who don’t have a job.

If you don’t want to deal with your relatives, be thankful that you have them – many people don’t have anyone to complain about.

The most important step to help you stop complaining is to speak positive things about other people.  Instead of finding the bad things about your co-workers, family or friends, be the force the shifts the negative things and draws out the positive.  You can be the element of change.  Tell them the things you believe they can do and you may be surprised at how much you inspire them.

As the Thanksgiving holidays approach, there won’t be a timelier occasion to reflect on changing your negative complaining habits into positive thoughts.  Take control, make the change, and celebrate life with a heart of Thanksgiving all year long.
